On Saturday 24 April 2010 the Archa Theatre in Prague hosted a meeting of scientists and politicians. The meeting was dedicated to the future of Czech science after the May 2010 elections to the Chamber of Deputies. In the often heated discussion representatives of individual political parties introduced their plans about the functioning and funding of science and education in the Czech Republic. Politicians’ ideas were confronted in an open discussed with the opinions of the scientists present. The political scene was represented by Jiří Havel (Czech Social Democratic Party), Ondřej Liška (Green Party), Miloslav Ransdorf (Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia), Jana Hybášková (European Democratic Party / Christian-Democratic Party –Czechoslovak People’s Party), Jan Vitula (TOP 09) and Zdeněk Vostracký (Civic Democratic Party); the scientists included art historian Milena Bartlová (Philosophical Faculty, Masaryk University, Brno), physiologist and biochemist Helena Illnerová (Physiological Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic), mathematician and physicist Jana Musilová (vice-rector for science and research, Masaryk University, Brno), molecular biologist Petr Svoboda (Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic), psychologist Stanislav Štech (Vice-Rector for Development, Charles University in Prague) and physical chemist Rudolf Zahradník (J. Heyrovsky Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic).
