11. 3. 2010: Debate WE DON’T AGREE, WHAT NEXT?
The student initiative Education Is Not Merchandise!, the Charles University pedagogical staff initiative We Can’t Take It Any Longer and the civic society Forum Science Is Alive! organised a debate on current changes in higher education and science policies under the title WE DON’T AGREE, WHAT NEXT?
The following speakers took part in the panel discussion: Jan Kratochvil (Education Is No Merchandise!), Karel Šima (Centre for Higher Education Studies), Petr Pavlík (We Can’t Take It Any Longer), Kateřina Ptáčková (Green Circle), Martin Krummholz (Forum Science Is Alive!).
The reform efforts in science and higher education policies bear many similar features from similar starting points of both the reforms (quantification, market principles, linking public institutions and the private sector, privatisation of some functions) to the engagement of the same people in both the reform teams. Issues of science and higher education must be addressed together and in a synthetic manner. Critiques of the current reforms must be formulated in the same way.
