“SCIENCE IN SOCIETY – WILL CZECH SCIENCE SURVIVE THE 2010 ELECTIONS?”
You can get an answer to this question at a discussion afternoon of the same title, dedicated to the perspectives of Czech science, organised by civic society Forum Science Is Alive! In a unique format of a panel discussion followed by “speed” dates one-on-one, representatives of political parties and prominent Czech scientists will discuss in the presence of the general public. The event will be held on Saturday, 24 April 2010 at 15:00 at the Archa Theatre.
A debate on the methodology of research result assessment took place on Monday 19 April 2010. The debate was organised by the initiative I Can’t Take It Any Longer. The panel discussion featured Dr. Tereza Stöckelová (Institute of Sociology of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic), Prof. Ivan Wilhelm (Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Charles University, governmental Commissioner for European Research) and Prof. Zdeněk Němeček (dean, Faculty of Mathematics and Physics).
Civic society Forum Science Is Alive! considers the new draft of the Methodology for Assessing Research Organisation Results and Assessment of Results of Completed Programmes, which is to be in effect between 2010 and 2012, to be completely flawed. An extraordinary Academic Forum was organised on Tuesday 23 March 2010 by the Czech Mathematicians and Physicians Union. The topic of debate was the new Methodology for Assessing Results of Research Organisations approved by the Council for Research, Development and Innovation (CRDI) and passed to the consultation procedure.
